One DAY Trip from Marrakech to Essaouira
A shared day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech begins with a drive along the Haouz plains. Once you are in Chichaoua village, located halfway, stop for a cup of coffee before continuing your journey.
Before you reach Essaouira, you will cross the Argan trees forest, where you will spot goats climbing the trees. Take some photos before continuing to Essaouira.
we will stop for a visit to a local Argan cooperative to watch how the rich Argan oil (also called the liquid gold or Moroccan oil) is extracted to find out how fine cosmetics are locally made with the oil. from here, we will continue to Essaouira.
When we arrive in Essaouira, you will have the chance to explore this fascinating city at leisure. (Based on our travel experience, exploring Essaouira is a snap: The locals are very friendly, the old town is relatively small, and its streets are in order.)
No Guide needed
It is certainly not necessary to hire a guide to tour around the city. It is easier for you to explore the Medina on your own because its streets run opposite to one another, unlike every other maze-like Medina in Morocco. You can hire a local guide from your driver if you prefer.
the thing to do in Essaouira on a day trip:
First, you can explore the old Portuguese fortifications and its fishing port. then Continue to the Medina, with its well-kept fortifications dating back to the 18th century. Among the main landmarks of the Medina is La Scala, which was built against foreign attacks from the sea.
It is possible to go to Bab Laalouj ( One of the main gates of Essaouira, then to Mellah (an old Jewish quarter).
There are various art shops, galleries, souvenir shops, and thuya woodcraft shops along the way.
Lunch
Take a delicious seafood lunch at one of the local cafes and visit Kasbah, famous for its former role as a military bastion. Enjoy a walk along the sandy beach of Mogador, and perhaps watch locals playing beach ball. You can join a game for a few minutes if you are brave enough people from Essaouira are very friendly!!! If you are not, you can sunbathe while watching sportspeople practicing windsurfing or kitesurfing.
In the late afternoon, return to Marrakech for an end to your full-day tour to Essaouira from Marrakech with a drop off at your hotel or the nearest car-accessible point to your riad.
